Set up or manage your program in chat

Instead of clicking through the admin, you can describe your shop to Claude or ChatGPT and let it build the program with you: ways to earn, rewards, VIP tiers, referrals and bonus campaigns, in every language you sell in. Once the program runs, the same connection lets you tune it in plain words.

You’ll find the Set up in chat card in onboarding and on the Charm home page. No API key to copy and nothing to request from us: it works on every plan.

Open Set up in chat and follow the three steps in the window.

  1. Add Charm to your assistant. Copy the connector address and add it as a custom connector.
    • Claude: Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector. The Open Claude button takes you there.
    • ChatGPT: Settings → Apps and connectors. Connectors that can make changes need developer mode, which needs a paid ChatGPT plan.
  2. Approve with a connection code. When you add the connector, the assistant opens a Charm approval page. Click Get a connection code in the card and type the code there. A code is valid for 15 minutes and works once. The card notices the connection by itself and shows Connected: Claude (or ChatGPT).
  3. Start chatting. Start a new chat and try one of the suggested prompts, or just say what you want.

While the program isn’t live yet, the card suggests building it:

  • “Set up a loyalty program for my shop. Ask me what I sell, who my customers are and what I want to achieve, then propose ways to earn, rewards and VIP tiers.”
  • “Translate the names of all ways to earn, rewards and VIP tiers into every language my shop sells in.”

Once the program is on, the card on the home page switches to Manage your program by chatting and suggests tuning it instead:

  • “Look at how my loyalty program did over the last 30 days and suggest three changes.”
  • “Plan a bonus points campaign for next weekend.”
  • “Check that everything is translated into every language my shop sells in, and fill in what’s missing.”

Connected from the card, the assistant can read your shop and program settings, read program analytics, and change the program: ways to earn, rewards, VIP tiers, referrals, who can earn, which e-mails go out, and bonus campaigns. It can’t see customer data or change anyone’s points.

  • Every change is previewed first. The assistant shows you what it is about to change and only applies it after you agree.
  • On a live program, an approved change reaches customers right away, the same as saving it in the admin.
  • Everything is in Change history. On the Programs page, More actions → Change history lists every change, from you or the assistant, and lets you undo the latest change to each rule, reward or tier.
  • The switches stay yours. Turning the program, VIP tiers or referrals on or off is always a click in the admin.
  • Campaign e-mails wait for you. A campaign the assistant creates sends no e-mail until you say so.

With an assistant connected, the card shows Connected: Claude with two actions: Manage connection opens the window with the prompts and the list of connected assistants, where Disconnect removes one, and See what your assistant changed opens Change history.

Connected assistants are also listed under Settings → API → Connected assistants. They run on a key Charm manages, shown there as Chat assistant (Charm); revoking that key disconnects every assistant connected with a code.

For developers and tools that send their own API key, see the MCP guide.
