Control when an order earns points (paid vs authorized vs pending)

Decide which payment status an order must reach before Charm awards points, so points fire at the moment that fits your fulfilment flow.

  1. Go to Settings → Points Program → Order rules.
  2. Turn on Customize points calculation, then in Award points when order is choose Paid, Authorized, Partially paid, or Pending.
  3. Click Save to apply the change.

Several rules let you require a minimum order value: the punch card, the order-count milestone ladder, the referral qualifying order, and a reward’s own minimum purchase. All four measure the same thing — the order subtotal:

  • after discounts,
  • taxes as your store charges them (included in prices, or added on top),
  • excluding shipping.

That’s the basis Shopify itself checks when it enforces a discount’s minimum purchase, so the €30 you type in one field is the same €30 in every other. This is deliberately not the same question as “what am I willing to pay points on” — the earning basis can exclude tax, shipping, gift cards or specific products without changing what counts as a €30 order.

When your Points per amount spent rule has two or more bonus tiers, the Loyalty Hub shows them as a full-width “spend more, earn more” ladder instead of a single line — each tier’s spend threshold and earning rate, so customers see exactly what they earn at each level. The ladder appears automatically; there’s nothing to switch on.

To edit the line above the ladder, go to Visibility → Customer copy and set Spend ladder intro. It shows in each customer’s storefront language.

When a shopper joins the program, Charm can award points for the guest purchases they made before signing up (matched by email, capped at 50 orders, and never reaching before your program’s launch).

  1. Go to Settings → Points Program → Order rules.
  2. Turn on Reward historic purchases — a window picker appears. Choose 1, 3, 6 or 12 months (1 month is the default). Leave the switch off to award nothing for pre-signup orders.
  3. Click Save.

The backfill runs both when an account is created and when an existing customer joins through the widget or the loyalty page.
