Hide a rule or reward from a specific tier

A VIP tier can change what a rule pays and what a reward costs — see per-tier values. It can also decide whether the rule or reward exists for that tier at all: save a reward for Gold, or keep the entry tier deliberately simple.

Steps

  1. Go to Program → VIP tiers and find the tier you want to restrict.
  2. On the tier’s card, look for the Availability in this tier box. It reads Everything available, or 3 hidden in this tier once you’ve restricted something.
  3. Click the pencil to open the availability editor. Your earning rules appear under Earning points and your rewards under Redeeming points, each with a checkbox, all ticked by default. Each line shows the rule’s or reward’s value, so three rewards of the same kind stay tellable apart.
  4. Untick anything members of this tier shouldn’t get, click Done, then Save.

What “hidden” means

A hidden earning rule can’t be completed while the customer is in that tier: it doesn’t appear on the widget, loyalty page or account page, and the action doesn’t award points even if they reach it another way.

A hidden reward can’t be redeemed while the customer is in that tier, and a redemption attempt is refused. What the customer sees depends on where the reward opens up:

  • Available only from a higher tier. Guests and customers below that tier still see the reward, marked with the first tier that unlocks it (for example “From Gold”) instead of a redeem button. It keeps pulling customers up the ladder instead of vanishing the moment someone joins. See rewards reserved for a higher tier.
  • Available in your entry tier but switched off in a higher one. Members of the higher tier don’t see it among their rewards.
  • Switched off in every tier. Nobody sees it.

Both are tied to the customer’s current tier. Move up and the rules and rewards of the new tier apply immediately — nothing is deleted, so promoting a customer restores whatever their old tier was hiding.

What always stays available

Some of the program is its backbone and is never hidden, in any tier:

  • base points for purchases
  • store credit cashback
  • punch cards
  • milestones
  • referrals
  • the signup bonus

That guarantee means no tier can end up with no way to earn.
