Set different rewards for the referrer vs the referred friend

Reward the customer who shares their link and the friend who buys with the incentive that makes sense for each side of a referral. The referrer can earn points, a single-use discount code, or both.

Steps

1. Go to Programs → Referral program and Edit the rule to open Complete a referral.
2. Under How to reward the referrer, choose Points, Discount code, or Points + discount code.
   • For points, set Points for the referrer.
   • For a discount code, set the Referrer discount type (Percentage off or Amount off) and its value. Optionally turn on Require a minimum order for the referrer’s code and Expire the referrer’s code (default 30 days).
3. Set Points for the referred friend for the new customer.
4. Click Save to apply the change.

Tip

Points reach the referrer once the friend completes a qualifying purchase (after any waiting period you’ve set). A discount code is single-use, scoped to the referrer, sent in the referral confirmation email, and revoked if the friend’s order is fully refunded. To reward only one side, set Points for the referred friend to 0 to reward the referrer alone, or choose Discount code to skip referrer points entirely.
