Add perks to a membership program
Decide what paid members get for their money. Charm uses the same benefit engine as VIP tiers, so a membership can grant shipping, discounts, discounted products, cashback, monthly store credit, birthday store credit, or a custom perk card. To make members earn points faster, see Give members a points multiplier.
- Go to Program → Paid memberships and open the membership to edit (or + Add membership).
- Under Member benefits, click + Add benefit, pick a type (Free shipping, Percentage discount, Amount discount, Free / discounted product, Store credit cashback, Monthly store credit, Birthday store credit, or Custom benefit) and set its value.
- Where How it’s given appears, leave it on Always on, the default.
- Click Done, repeat for each perk, then Save.

Free / discounted product can cover one product, several products (click Pick products and choose up to 10), or a collection. On a membership, every product in the list is discounted, not just one of them; Summary confirms it with “Each of the 3 products is discounted.”
Monthly store credit turns the membership fee into spendable credit. Set Credit per billing cycle to the amount the member gets back: each time the membership’s subscription renews and the payment goes through, Charm issues that amount as Shopify store credit in your store’s currency. A $10/month member getting $10 back each cycle effectively shops their fee back, usually above its face value. The credit is issued once per billing cycle, so a yearly plan pays it once a year, and it starts with the first renewal rather than the original purchase. It needs an auto-renewing membership: a one-time membership never renews, so it never pays this perk. A customer holding two memberships gets the credit of the one that billed.
Birthday store credit gives members store credit on their birthday, once a year. Set the Amount (in your store’s currency) and, if the credit should expire, turn on Give the credit an expiry date and set Days the credit stays usable; Shopify removes the credit after that. Charm’s daily birthday check pays it on the birthday itself to members whose membership is active or in its grace period, and the member gets the Store credit earned email with “Birthday bonus” under the amount. It’s paid whether or not your shop-wide birthday bonus is on, and on top of that bonus when it is. A member whose membership and VIP tier both carry the perk, or who holds two memberships, gets one credit a year: the larger one. The same perk can be added to VIP tiers.
Each perk’s dialog ends with Customer-facing appearance, where Benefit text renames the perk for customers (per language, if your store has several), and a Summary of what the perk amounts to.
