Reward customers who complete a set of collections
A Complete the set card works like a punch card whose stamps are collections instead of orders. You pick 2 to 8 collections, for example Base layer, Fleece, Jacket and Trousers. The first time a customer buys something from one of them, that slot is stamped, and a full card earns the reward. Every slot links to its collection, so the card also sends customers to the parts of your catalog they haven’t tried yet.
- Go to Program → Earning points and click Add way to earn.
- Choose Complete the set (under Engagement).
- Under Collections to collect, click Select collection on each row. The editor opens with two rows; click Add collection for more, up to 8.
- (Optional) Fill in Card label (optional) on a row to show customers a shorter or friendlier name than the collection’s title.
- Leave Start a new card after the set is complete on so customers can collect the set again, or turn it off to pay the reward once per customer.
- Under Reward, choose the Reward on a completed card: Bonus points (100 by default), Free product, Amount off, Percentage off, Free shipping or Store credit.
- Click Add, then Save.
Every row needs a collection, and each collection can fill only one slot. You can run one Complete the set card per store.
How a slot gets stamped
Section titled “How a slot gets stamped”- A slot is stamped by the first order that earns points and includes an item from that collection. Orders count under the same settings as points for purchases, so when an order earns points applies, and a product excluded from earning doesn’t stamp anything.
- One order can stamp several slots. A product that sits in two of the set’s collections stamps both, so use an automated collection if you want, say, men’s and women’s jackets to count as one slot.
- Counting starts when you add the rule. Orders placed before that don’t stamp slots.
- Stamps belong to the current card. When a card is complete the next one starts empty, and the order that completed the card doesn’t also stamp the new one.
- If you hold order points for a while before they become available, a points reward for a completed card is held the same way.
Refunds and cancellations
Section titled “Refunds and cancellations”If an order is cancelled or fully refunded before the card is complete, its stamps stop counting. A later order from the same collection stamps the slot again. A partial refund leaves the stamps in place.
A completed card is never taken back: the customer keeps the reward even if an order that filled it is refunded later.
The reward
Section titled “The reward”| Reward | What the customer gets |
|---|---|
| Bonus points | Points on their balance, included in the points-earned email for that order |
| Free product | A one-time code by email, or the product added to the order that completed the card |
| Amount off | A fixed-amount discount code |
| Percentage off | A percentage discount code |
| Free shipping | A free-shipping discount code |
| Store credit | Shopify store credit on their account, with no code |
Discount codes are emailed and also appear under Your discount codes in the customer’s rewards. A Free product reward has a How the reward is delivered choice: Discount code (the default) or Add it to the completing order for free. If that order can no longer be edited, the customer gets a code instead. Code rewards other than store credit can also Require a minimum purchase, so a small order can’t use the reward on its own.
Translate the card labels
Section titled “Translate the card labels”If your storefront is published in more than one language, a Language selector appears above the collection rows. Pick a language and fill in Card label (optional) for it. Customers see the label for their own language. A blank translation falls back to the label in your default language, and a row without any label shows the collection’s title, in the same language for everyone.
What customers see
Section titled “What customers see”- Loyalty Hub: a Collect the set section led by one line that sells the set, such as “Buy from all 4 collections and earn 500 points”. Each collection is a tile with its photo and name, checked once collected. A progress bar underneath reads “2 / 4 collected”, and customers who have completed the card before see “Earned 1×”.
- Floating widget: a Complete the set card among the ways to earn, with the same line, a row per collection (thumbnail, name, and a check once collected) and how many are left, for example “2 more to your reward”.
- Landing page: a full-width card with a tile per collection. Photos stay grey until the collection is collected, and once the customer has at least one stamp the card lists what’s “Still missing”. To show the set as a regular tile instead, untick Feature progress cards (punch card, set) in the Landing: Ways to earn block. Visitors who aren’t signed in see the card with nothing collected yet.
- POS: staff see a Collect the set section in the loyalty view with the customer’s progress, for example “3/4 collected”.
- FAQ: the auto-generated FAQ adds “How does the set card work?”, naming the collections, the reward, and whether the card starts again.
- Points history: each stamp shows as “Set stamp” with the collection’s name, and a full card as “Set complete”.
Complete the set vs. a punch card
Section titled “Complete the set vs. a punch card”- A punch card counts orders. Every qualifying order is a stamp, whatever is in it, which suits products people buy again and again.
- A Complete the set card counts collections. Five orders from the same collection still fill one slot. It suits catalogs where you want customers to branch out: a complete outfit, one item from every season, a starter kit.
A set has no head start, comeback stamp or minimum order value per stamp. Those stay punch-card options.
Changing a live set
Section titled “Changing a live set”Stamps are kept per collection, so you can edit a running set:
- Collections that stay in the set keep their stamps.
- A collection you add is an empty slot for everyone, including customers partway through a card.
- A collection you remove stops counting. If it was the only slot a customer was still missing, their card is now full and pays out on their next qualifying order.
If a collection used in the set is deleted in Shopify, the Program page shows a warning so you can pick another one.
