Set up points expiration

Expire unused points after a set period of inactivity so balances stay current and your liability doesn’t grow unchecked.

Steps

1. Go to Settings → Points Program → Points expiry.
2. Turn on Enable points expiry, then set Months until expiry (the inactivity window, 1–60 months).
3. Click Save to apply the change.

Tip

Expiry runs on inactivity — the clock resets every time a customer earns or redeems, so only truly dormant balances expire. The change applies retroactively to existing balances, and a points-expiry warning email goes out a set number of days before points are due to expire — turn that email off if you’d rather stay quiet.

What happens when points expire

Charm checks daily. Once the expiry date a customer was shown has fully passed, their balance is zeroed and a Points expired entry appears in their points history — so a customer told “expires 15 May” keeps their points through the whole of 15 May. The date in the job, in the storefront display and in the warning email is always the same one; they can’t disagree.

The deduction itself sends no email — the warning already went out. Expired points don’t reset the inactivity clock, don’t count toward VIP tier qualification, and don’t touch lifetime points earned, so nobody drops a tier just because their balance expired.
