Require customers to join before redeeming

Make customers explicitly join your program — and optionally accept your terms — before they can redeem, so enrolment is intentional and consent is recorded.

Steps

1. Go to Settings → Points program → Join gate.
2. Turn on Require customers to join before redeeming.
3. (Optional) Turn on Offer an email opt-in checkbox at join to write marketing consent to the Shopify customer profile.
4. Set Terms link to Shopify policy pages (automatic) — Charm auto-detects your published Terms and Privacy pages — or Custom page to pick a specific page.
5. Click Save.

Once enabled, new customers see a Join & Agree step in the Loyalty Hub and floating widget, and a locked state at checkout. Points from qualifying orders keep accruing safely and show as waiting, then become spendable the moment the customer joins. The welcome bonus is held until they join. Existing customers are treated as already joined, and admin- or POS-issued points bypass the gate.

Tip

If you later turn the gate off, nothing is lost — waiting points become spendable and the welcome bonus is released.

Caution

In automatic mode, the Join & Agree card only shows the agreement line when your store has a published Terms of Service or Privacy Policy. If it has neither, Charm warns you — add them under Settings → Policies and re-save, or choose Custom page.
