Set up a membership anniversary reward

Thank long-standing members on the anniversary of the day they joined your program. Charm issues the reward automatically every year, with bonus points or a discount code, and customers don’t have to claim anything.

  1. Go to Program → Earning points and click Add way to earn.
  2. Choose Celebrate a membership anniversary (under Getting started).
  3. Pick the Anniversary reward: Bonus points (200 by default), Free product, Amount off, Percentage off or Free shipping.
  4. (Discount rewards only) Limit how long the reward is valid is on by default, with Days the discount code stays valid set to 7. Turn it off for a code that doesn’t expire.
  5. (Optional) Turn on Start from a later anniversary and set First rewarded anniversary (years) to reward only longer-standing members, for example from their second anniversary on. With it off, every anniversary is rewarded, starting with the first.
  6. Click Add, then Save.

The anniversary is the day the customer became a member of your program in Charm, not the day they created their Shopify account.

  • The first reward arrives one year after joining. The day someone joins is never an anniversary.
  • Members you migrated from another loyalty platform keep the join date from their old program when your import includes it, so a member of five years celebrates year five, not year one. If the import has no join date, a member who wasn’t in Charm yet counts from the day of the import.
  • A member who joined on 29 February celebrates on 28 February in years that have no 29th.

There’s no waiting period to configure, unlike the birthday bonus: the join date comes from Charm and customers can’t change it.

Charm checks anniversaries daily and issues the reward once a year per member. Bonus points land on the customer’s balance; a discount reward creates a code for them. The Anniversary Reward email goes out at the same time. You’ll find it in Emails under Membership anniversary, where you can edit its content or turn it off. The group shows as Inactive until the rule is enabled.

On the storefront, the rule is listed with your other ways to earn in the floating widget, the Loyalty Hub and the landing page, showing its reward. The reward appears in the customer’s points history as “Anniversary bonus”.
