Give members a points multiplier
Let paid members earn points faster than other customers, for example 1.5× on a Monthly plan and 2× on a Yearly plan. The multiplier belongs to the membership, so it starts when the membership activates and stops when the membership ends (it keeps working during the grace period, like the other perks).
- Go to Program → Paid memberships and open the membership to edit.
- Under Member benefits, set Points multiplier. For example, 1.5 earns one and a half times the usual points. 1 means no multiplier.
- Click Save.
The benefit count next to Member benefits includes the multiplier, because customers see it as one of the plan’s perks.
How it combines with VIP tiers
Section titled “How it combines with VIP tiers”A member who also has a VIP tier multiplier earns at the higher of the two. The two are never multiplied together:
- A Silver customer at 1.25× who buys a 2× membership earns 2×.
- A Gold customer at 2.5× who buys the same membership keeps earning 2.5×.
A customer holding two memberships earns at the higher of the two. During a points campaign, the campaign’s Stacking with VIP tiers setting treats the membership multiplier the same way as a tier multiplier. See multiplier stacking.
Membership purchases themselves never earn points, so a plan can’t earn against its own multiplier. See Stop points earning on membership purchases.
Where customers see it
Section titled “Where customers see it”The multiplier leads the plan’s perk list, for example “Earn 2x more points”: on the product page membership block, on the plan cards in the floating widget, the Loyalty Hub and the landing page, and as the points row of the plan comparison table. Point estimates on the product page and in the cart use the rate the member actually earns. When the membership’s multiplier is the one that applied to an order, the points earned email, the customer’s points history and the customer’s page in the Charm admin name the membership next to the multiplier.
Keep the multiplier for members who keep ordering
Section titled “Keep the multiplier for members who keep ordering”You can tie the full multiplier to regular orders, so a member who stops buying earns a lower rate on their next order.
- Go to Program → Paid memberships and open the membership. These fields only appear once Points multiplier is above 1.
- Set Keep the multiplier with a purchase every (months), for example 3. 0, the default, keeps the multiplier at all times.
- Set Multiplier when inactive, the rate a member’s next order earns after a longer gap. 1 means no extra points. It can’t be higher than Points multiplier.
- Click Save.
Charm counts calendar months from the member’s last order, or from the start of the membership if that’s later, so a new member is never treated as inactive. It judges each order on the date it was placed:
- An order placed within the window earns the full multiplier.
- The first order placed after the window has run out earns the Multiplier when inactive.
- That order restarts the count, so the full multiplier applies again from the order after it.
For example, with a 2× multiplier, a 3-month window and 1.25× when inactive: a member who last ordered on 10 January and orders again on 20 May earns 1.25× on that order, and 2× on their next order in June.
The rule only lowers the membership’s multiplier, never a VIP tier’s. A member whose membership rate drops to 1.25× but who holds a 1.5× tier earns 1.5×.
