Set up a signup bonus for new customers

Give customers an initial points reward the moment they join, so they start with a balance worth coming back for.

Steps

1. Go to Programs → Ways to earn and click Add way to earn.
2. Choose Signup bonus from the rule list.
3. Set Bonus points and choose Who can earn this bonus.
4. Under When to award the bonus, choose As soon as the account is created (default), After the customer’s first paid order, or After the customer opts into email marketing. Then add the rule and Save.

Tip

The audience choice matters. All eligible customers who have not received it yet also rewards your existing members on their next activity, while New customer profiles only limits the bonus to people who join after the date you save. The bonus is granted once per customer — Charm’s cooldown prevents double-dipping. Who counts as “eligible” follows your eligibility settings.

Tip

When to award the bonus controls the timing. Deferring it until the customer’s first paid order or an email opt-in targets a higher-intent audience and blocks the “create a throwaway account and grab the points” pattern. Leave it on As soon as the account is created for the fastest welcome.
