See which affiliate partners bring new customers

Charm marks every order an affiliate partner brings as the buyer’s first purchase in your store or an order from a returning customer. From that it shows how many new customers each partner brings, what those customers spend and what each one costs you in commission, so you can tell a partner who finds new buyers from one whose code mostly goes to people who already shop with you.

  • An order counts as a new customer when it was the customer’s first purchase in your store. Charm uses the same new and returning split as Shopify Analytics, so the numbers match its reports.
  • New orders are checked within an hour of being placed.
  • Orders you imported from your previous affiliate app count too, so a partner’s figures cover their whole history.
  • An order Shopify Analytics can’t place, such as a test order, isn’t counted either way.

Go to Program → Affiliate partners.

  • Partner list. The New customers column shows, for example, 9 of 12 (75 %): 9 of the partner’s 12 orders were a first purchase.
  • Affiliate programme card. All three figures below, added up across your partners.
  • A partner’s page. The summary card shows all three figures for every order the partner has brought you, previous app included. Above the order list, New customers sits next to Clicks and Conversion for the period you choose, and each first purchase in the list carries a New customer note under the order number.
FigureWhat it shows
New customersHow many of the partner’s orders were a first purchase, out of all their orders, with the share.
New customer salesThe sales from those first purchases, and their share of everything the partner sold.
Cost per new customerThe commission on the partner’s orders divided by the new customers they brought. A refund that reverses a commission lowers it.

Until a partner has an order Charm could check, each figure shows a dash instead of zero.

Export commissions (CSV) on the Affiliate programme card includes a customer_type column: new for a first purchase, returning for a returning customer. It stays empty while an order hasn’t been checked yet, and for an order Shopify Analytics can’t place.
