Reward customers for answering profile questions
Ask customers up to five questions about themselves, each with answers you set, such as skin type or age range. A customer earns points the first time they answer, and the answers are saved to their customer profile so you can segment and personalize with them.
- Go to Program → Earning points and click Add way to earn.
- Choose Profile questions. The rule starts with two example questions, Skin type and Age range, which you can rename or remove.
- For each question, write its text and choose what Customers can pick: One answer or Several answers. Add between 2 and 10 answers.
- Mark at least one question Required. Customers can’t save their answers without the required ones.
- Set Points awarded (50 by default). You can set a different amount for each VIP tier.
- Add the rule and click Save.
You can ask up to 5 questions. A question can have up to 120 characters and an answer up to 60.
How customers answer
Section titled “How customers answer”Members see the rule as Tell us about you in the floating widget and on the Charm landing page. They pick their answers and save them. The first save adds the points, and a short Answers saved message confirms it.
Customers can come back and change their answers at any time. Changing them updates the saved answers but never pays the points again.
Where the answers go
Section titled “Where the answers go”Each question has a name, shown under it in the editor as Saved as, for example skin_type. Charm saves the answers under that name in three places:
- In Charm, on the customer’s page under Customers.
- In Shopify, as a customer metafield
charm_profile.<name>. A question with one answer is a single line of text, a question with several answers is a list. - In Klaviyo, as the profile property
charm_profile_<name>, when Klaviyo is connected.
The name stays the same when you rename a question or its answers, so your segments and flows keep working. A saved question also keeps its answer type. To ask the same thing the other way, add a new question.
Use the answers in Shopify segments
Section titled “Use the answers in Shopify segments”In Customers → Segments, filter by the question’s metafield, for example:
metafields.charm_profile.skin_type = 'sensitive'Shopify segments can filter only questions with one answer. Questions with several answers work in Klaviyo and Shopify Flow, but not in segments.
Through the API
Section titled “Through the API”The claims endpoint accepts the answers as answers, a map of question name to answer name, or to a list of answer names for a question with several answers. A missing required answer is refused with answers_required, an answer that isn’t one of the question’s answers with invalid_answer.
